Life in the UK test format
A multiple-choice test on a computer at a test centre in the UK, in English.
- 24 questions
- 45 minutes to answer them
- 18 right answers to pass, which is 75%
What the questions cover
Every question comes from the handbook, "Life in the United Kingdom: A Guide for New Residents", 3rd edition: British values, history, society, the government and the law. Facts that changed after the handbook was written in 2013 are tested as the handbook states them. Our practice questions follow the handbook's chapters in proportion:
- Chapter 1: The values and principles of the UK, 15 questions
- Chapter 2: What is the UK?, 15 questions
- Chapter 3: A long and illustrious history, 262 questions
- Chapter 4: A modern, thriving society, 160 questions
- Chapter 5: The UK government, the law and your role, 199 questions
The four kinds of question
- One answer out of four. "Which of these...?" with four options; one is right.
- Which statement is correct. Two statements; pick the one that is true.
- True or false. One statement to mark true or false.
- Which TWO. Four options, two of them right; you choose both.
Our practice questions use all four kinds.
